Have a Question?
Car Battery Car batteries wear out; it’s a fact of life. Sooner or later you are going to need a new car battery. It can happen two ways. Sometimes, your battery gets weak and you may notice your car, over time, starts slower and slower. The battery begins to wear out and it has less and less power to turn over the engine. Eventually, it’s just too weak and doesn’t have enough amps to turn over the engine any more. Other times, your battery goes out just all of a sudden, seemingly without warning. One day your car starts just fine, the next day the battery just doesn’t even have enough power to turn the engine over at all. Perhaps it has a dead cell in it, such as when a plate breaks in the battery and touches the plate next to it within the battery and in effect shorts out that portion of it. And because it’s so sudden, you may think the problem is NOT the battery but instead some other part of the car that is causing it not to start. Batteries can be a challenge to figure out. Most people know that the red post is positive and the black post is negative. Other than that, you have to have the right equipment to test it and see if your battery has a dead cell, or no longer has enough cold cranking amps to turn your engine over when you turn the key. A good battery will hold greater than 12 volts, sometimes even 13.5 or 14 volts. Turning over the engine takes a lot of amps and drains the battery and then your car's electrical system and alternator recharge the battery while the engine is running. But if your battery has a dead cell, usually from a lead plate array within the battery that has broken or become weak from years of draining and recharging, then your battery may no longer be able to put out enough amperage to turn your starter and the engine. Even if your battery registers more than 12 volts with a volt meter, it may not have enough amps, or cold cranking amps, as it is rated for and did when it was new, and can no longer supply enough juice to get the job done.
Regardless of why your battery went out, we can help. Don’t risk getting yourself, or your loved ones, stranded when your car suddenly doesn’t start. We can diagnose a bad battery, order the correct car battery for your year, make, and model, and install it for you.
